This project involved a major re-roofing of an occupied, historic classroom block at the Cairns State High School. This also involved the removal of A class Friable Asbestos which required full asbestos monitoring by an independent hygienist. Other requirements included Working with Children Blue Cards as the building was occupied during the works and as a multi-storey building, the requirement of an Open Builder License was necessary. A major structural upgrade of the roof was required in the scope of works including extensive repainting.
The building is Heritage listed and required consultation with a Heritage Architect during the project. Communication with all consultants allowed the project to progress smoothly even as issues were revealed on site. WIP was able to accommodate changes in the design requirements, preventing delays in the program schedule while the building was redeveloped.
