This residence located in Edge Hill was an architecturally designed home located on the steep sloping lot. The house was single storey that was elevated above the hill side and required complex construction of an engineered steel frame to cantilever over the slope. The project included comprehensive and meticulous timber and stonework that all took place on the hillside. This was the architect’s own residence, and was the winner of AIA Regional house of the year award 2011.
Due to the nature of the site, careful consideration was needed for access, safety and environmental management. As a winner of the AIA award, this home was a testament to the capability of the entire WIP team and the communication with the client architect to ensure satisfaction with the end result. This house has also been recognised in the James Cook University “Tropical Sustainable Design Case Studies” and exercises extensive shade
and passive techniques as well as suitably sourced materials.
