OVERVIEW

This project was completed for the Cairns Regional Council and involved the creation of a new Nature Playground which is the first of its kind in Cairns.
The project created children’s playground elements using more natural structures.
The project was a great success for WIP and utilised our skilled carpenters and civil experience to create a bespoke playground that can be enjoyed for years to come. A new irrigation system was installed along with new planting in the garden beds.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Difficulties All of the trees on the site were maintained as required by the council and required machinery to work around these without damaging the tree roots. The site required consistent supervision and communication with the architect to work through any on site changes and provide better outcomes for the project. During this project, WH&S standards were met along with environmental management requirements for mosquito controls.
  • Outcomes The project was completed on program with a successful grand opening to the public. All work was completed to a high quality and to the satisfaction of all parties including the Cairns Regional Council. The general public have enjoyed the new facility and have earmarked the project as a new benchmark for playgrounds in the region. This project has also won awards at the 2018 Regional Awards of Excellence from Parks and Leisure Australia as well as the Australian Institute of Architects commendation Award for Urban design.
