WIP Construction was commissioned by the Department of Education to design and build a new accommodation facility for the Tagai State College teaching staff on Saibai Island in the Torres Straits. The project involved the construction of a low-set duplex, featuring two units with single bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms, an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, a separate laundry, a half bath, and an enclosed patio.
Challenges: Recognising the complexities of working in remote locations, WIP Construction encountered logistical and weather-related challenges during the Saibai Island Teachers Housing project. Overcoming these hurdles required the team’s perseverance and careful logistical planning.
Outcomes: Despite the difficulties, the project successfully delivered a high-quality accommodation building for the teaching staff. Both the Tagai State College teaching staff and the Department of Education expressed satisfaction with the move-in ready facility.
