WIP Construction was engaged to design and construct a Covered Outdoor Learning Area for the Trinity Beach State School, incorporating a new Canteen and Student Amenities block, including, hard and soft landscaping, Data and electrical diversions.
Difficulties: As the school was operational and the job site was located centrally to the surrounding buildings, careful consideration was required to separate the site from the rest of the school and still have access to the site. All deliveries were carried out of school hours to limit risk to the staff, students and visitors to the school.
Existing in-ground services were poorly documented, so extensive in ground investigations were required as well as careful design of the new footings as to not disturb and protect services. Cranage and assembly of the main steel structure was required to be done outside of school hours as well. Works were delayed by wet weather, as most of the construction was attempted during the extended monsoon period.
Outcomes: Communication and notices were required frequently to inform the school liaison officer (principal) which was appreciated greatly by the school administration and the principals’ project management team. Fortunately all civil and footing works as well as slabs were completed during the Christmas break.
The completed project was complimented by the school and principal project manager for its efficiencies, communication and the professional conduct of our employees and subcontractors in a busy school environment.
